Espionage case: Five more arrested

New Delhi, Feb 20 (IBNS): In a fresh development, the police have arrested five more people in connection with the oil ministry espionage case on Friday, reports said.

Earlier in the day, two people , including a former journalist who now runs an energy portal now,  were arrested.

While the journalist is identified as Santanu Saikia, who runs an oil industry portal, the other person is energy consultant Prayas Jain, said police.

Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said an independent agency is probing the matter and so it will complete its probe to come out wit the findings.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), meanwhile, said while they know of one of their personnel being detained, they "are unaware of more details."

"An internal probe is underway as per our robust internal standards. The matter is under investigation as per law and we are determined to cooperate in every possible manner.We are already in International Arbitration with the said ministry on all important matters. Our only expectation is a fair and expeditious resolution of our legal rights and contentions by the Arbitrators,” the company said.

Police sources told Hindustan Times that inputs for the NDA government’s first full budget were among the leaked documents allegedly found in the possession of the seven people arrested since Wednesday.
The Delhi Police on Thursday first arrested five people, including   two officials of the Petroleum Ministry,  for  leaking confidential government documents.

Delhi Police Chief BS Bassi told reporters that those who have received the documents have been identified.

Reliance Industries (RIL) of Mukesh Ambani, Ruia’s of Essar, Anil Agarwal-led Vedanta group company Cairn India and Anil Ambani-led Reliance Dhirubhai Ambani Group (R-ADAG) are under scanner for suspected links with the corporate espionage case.
