Tallinn, Mar 11 (Sputnik/UNI) Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid will visit the United States on March 11-14 to discuss the issues of security and bilateral cooperation, as well as hold a series of meetings with top officials, the presidential press office said in a statement on Monday.

"Friendly relations are and will remain the foundation of Estonian-US bilateral security politics as well as provide a framework for our cooperation within NATO. Estonia, Europe as a whole and the United States all win from strong trans-Atlantic relations, built on common values," the Estonian president's Foreign Policy Adviser Lauri Kuusing said as quoted in the statement.

Kaljulaid is scheduled to meet US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and members of the Senate and Congress and present a speech on security and trans-Atlantic relations.
Kaljulaid will also meet with the presidents of Trinidad and Tobago, Nepal, as well as the vice president of Colombia and several ambassadors to the United Nations to discuss Estonia's campaign to get a non-permanent seat on the UN security Council for 2020/2021.

The Estonian president also plans to participate in the 63rd session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

Estonian-US relations have been strong since Estonia gained independence in 1991. The two countries have a number of signed bilateral agreements, including a cybersecurity partnership statement signed in 2013 on the margins of a NATO ministerial meeting. Also, Estonia has been a member of NATO since March 2004.
