Ex-Indian Finance Minister P Chidambaram's CBI custody extended till Tuesday

New Delhi, Sept 2 (IBNS): A Delhi court on Monday granted one more day of custody of former Indian Finance Minister P Chidambaram to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

A CBI court has agreed to hear Chidambaram's interim bail plea on Tuesday.

“We are requesting P Chidambaram’s one-day custody, till tomorrow, when the Supreme Court will hear the matter. If released on bail, P Chidambaram may influence the witnesses,” Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said in court, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Chidambaram was arrested last month in connection with the INX Media case.

In an unprecedented development, a team of CBI reached the Jor Bagh residence of the senior politician, thumped at the gate and then scaled the wall of his house to enter inside the residence right after he left the Congress headquarters last month following a press conference.

The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested the veteran leader of the Indian National Congress after a day of high drama on Aug 21.

The CBI registered an FIR in the month of May 2017 over the alleged irregularities in the FIPB clearance to INX Media to receive overseas funds of Rs. 305 crore in 2007, when Chidambaram was Finance Minister.
