Expired medicine racket busted in Kolkata, 2 held
According to reports, based on a complaint lodged by the state drug controller, police raided a printing press at Canning Street area in central part of the city and booked its owner Pawan Jhunjhunwala.
"In Pawan Jhunjhunwala's printing press, prints of the expired medicine-strips were removed and reprinted with new manufacturing date, expiry date and batch number," a senior official of Kolkata Police's detective department told IBNS.
After interrogating the press owner, police nabbed a medicine wholesaler- Rines Sarogi- from Belur area in Kolkata's twin city Howrah.
"This medicine wholesaler used to collect expired medicines from several shops and send those to Canning Street's printing press for reprint. After the reprinting process was done, he recycled those reprinted medicines," the official added.
Police officers are interrogating the duo at city police headquarter at Lalbazar to know about others involved in the dangerous practice, till the last update came in.
However, Pawan Jhunjhunwala and Rines Sarogi are likely to be produced before a city court on Friday.
