Fake doctors: NHRC sends notice to Tamil Nadu govt
New Delhi, Dec 4 (IBNS): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday sent notice to the Tamil Nadu government over the issue of 30,000 fake doctors practicing in the south Indian state.
In a statement, NHRC said it "The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that there were 30,000 fake doctors practicing in the State of Tamil Nadu. The State President of the Indian Medical Association disclosed this during a meeting held at Namakkal, Tamil Nadu recently. Allegedly, in the backward districts of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri particularly, a number of fake doctors were practicing affecting health of people."
"Issuing notices calling for reports from the Chief Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu, Secretaries of Medical Council of India and Tamil Nadu State Medical Council, Mr. Justice D. Murugesan, Member, NHRC has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the people of Tamil Nadu," it said.
" They have also been directed to submit a report on the action taken to prosecute the quacks. They have been given two weeks time to respond," read the statement.
