Fake expiry dates? Lay’s, Maggi, Kurkure among food products seized in Maharashtra raid
Maharashtra authorities have busted a racket allegedly involved in altering the manufacturing and expiry dates of packaged food products and repackaging them for export, according to reports.
Products carrying the names of several well-known Indian and international food and beverage brands, including Lay’s, Kurkure, Maggi, Knorr, Rasoi, Hellmann’s, Thums Up and Limca, were among the stock seized during a joint operation by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Navi Mumbai Police Crime Branch, NDTV reported.
Officials seized several Lay’s variants, including Classic Salted, Magic Masala, Spanish Tangy Tomato, Sizzling Hot and Lemon Chilli.
Multiple Kurkure variants were also found during the raid, including Masala Munch, Red Chilli Chataka, Naughty Tomato, Solid Masti, Green Chutney, Schezwan Chutney and Puffcorn Yummy Cheese.
Other packaged food products recovered during the operation included Maggi Masala and Atta Noodles, as well as Fun Flips.
The seized stock also included Knorr Mushroom Soup, Rasoi curry pastes and Hellmann’s mayonnaise.
The operation was conducted between August 24 and 29 at the premises of Sadhana Enterprises in the Turbhe TTC Industrial Area, following information received by the police’s Central Crime Branch, NDTV reported.
According to the news channel, officials found that the dates printed on food packaging were being removed or overwritten as part of the alleged operation.
Authorities are investigating the racket and the extent of the alleged repackaging and export operation.
