Farmer suicide: Kejriwal blames Delhi Police
New Delhi, Apr 22 (IBNS): As political blame game continue over the the death of a farmer by committing suicide during a rally hosted by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the national capital's Jantar Mantar on Wednesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was present at the venue, blamed the Delhi Police for the same.
"The farmer climbed up the tree in front of our eyes. We appealed the police to get him down time and again. I know Delhi police is not under our control but they are under the control of God," Kejriwal said.
Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi, however, said the truth will come out after the investigation.
In fact, his party member Ashutosh lashed out at the media over criticisms for the AAP workers, who were slammed for continuing the rally even after the mishap.
"It is the mistake of Arvindji that he did not climb up the tree. Next time, I'll ask the Delhi Chief Minister to climb up the tree," he said.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said he was 'deeply pained' to hear about the death of a farmer who committed suicide during the rally.
"Deeply pained to hear the news of a farmer committing suicide at Jantar Mantar.Instructed Delhi CP to institute an inquiry into the incident," Singh tweeted.
He has directed the Delhi Police Commissioner to institute an inquiry into the incident.
The Home Ministry tweeted: "The HM spoke to Delhi Police Commissioner and instructed him to institute an inquiry into the incident of farmer suicide in Delhi."
"Joint CP Delhi Police has been asked to conduct an inquiry into the incident of farmer suicide at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi today," it said.
A political war has erupted since the incident occurred in the afternoon with both the BJP and the Congress slamming Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and his AAP over the suicide of Gajender Singh Rajput. He was a farmer from Rajasthan.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi went to the hospital where the farmer was taken from Jantar Mantar.
"Modi govt is keen on helping the coporates. It's sad. We will do whatever way we can. We will fight the new ordinance of them," he said.
"Don't be worried and we will help you all," Gandhi told farmers and labourers as he spoke to reporters here.
Reacting to the incident, Congress leader Sachin Pilot said: "It is a matter of shame that the farmer had to end his life during a public meet."
Congress leader Sharmistha Mukherjee tweeted: "Shocked 2 learn farmer hanged himself in presence of 1000s while Delhi CM went on speaking in "support of farmers"! It's inhuman! Shame!"
The BJP also called the incident as a 'conspiracy'.
"This is a conspiracy... Arvind Kejriwal, you knew he has dead. You were present there at the spot. But you continued with your speech," BJP leader Sambit Patra said.
"How can you continue a rally and deliver speech when he was trying to commit suicide?" Patra said.
Gajender hung himself from the tree and committed suicide.
After the man fell down from the tree, he was taken to a hospital.
In the hospital, doctors declared him brought dead.
The AAP hosted the rally to protest against Centre's Land Acquisition Ordinance.
