Fight against COVID-19: Prez, PM, MPs, Ministers to take a pay cut for one yearÂ
New Delhi/IBNS: The Union Cabinet on Monday cleared an ordinance to reduce salaries of parliamentarians and ministers by 30 per cent for one year to meet the COVID-19 crisis that has emerged in the country in the past few weeks.
The Cabinet also approved temporary suspension of MPLADS during 2020-21 and 2021-22 for managing health and adverse impact of outbreak of COVID19 in the country.
"The President, Vice President, the Governors have also voluntarily decided to take a pay cut," Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said.
"Cabinet approves Ordinance amending the Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament Act, 1954 reducing allowances and pension by 30% w.e.f. 1st April, 2020 for a year," Javadekar said.

Speaking on the lockdown issue, he said: "We are monitoring world situation every minute & therefore decisions are taken ultimately in nation's & people's interests. That decision will be declared whenever right time is there."
The toll in Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in India crossed 100 on Monday while the South Asian country of 1.3 billion people entered the 13th day of a nationwide lockdown which began on Mar 25.
As per the latest update given by the Indian government, 4,067 people so far across the country have been infected with the deadly pandemic virus.
Of 4,067 people, 292 have recovered while 109 died.
Maharashtra, a western state of the country, has reported so far the highest number of COVID-19 patients (690) followed by Tamil Nadu (571).
Interestingly, the southern state of Tamil Nadu took weeks to report its first case but the figure spiked within few days to over 500.
