FIR ordered against Pragya Singh Thakur for Babri comment

New Delhi, Apr 19 (IBNS): An FIR will be lodged against BJP's Bhopal candidate Pragya Singh Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts case, for saying she was "proud to be part of the Babri mosque demolition".

Reports said an election officer has ordered the FIR after the BJP candidate from Bhopal in the Lok Sabha election told TV9: "We had removed a blot from the country. We had gone to demolish the structure. I climbed atop the structure and broke it and I feel extremely proud that God gave me this opportunity. We will make sure that a Ram Temple is built at that site."

She has been served notice for "creating mutual hatred or cause tension between different communities", but she says she "stands by" what she said. "Yes, I had gone there, I had said it yesterday too, not denying it. I had demolished the structure. I will go there and help in the construction of the Ram temple, nobody can stop us from doing that." she said.

On Friday, Thakur, who calls herself a "sadhvi", had triggered a controversy by saying that  26/11 hero Hemant Karkare was killed after she had "cursed" him.

Addressing a press conference, the 48-year-old said: "I had once told him that you will be finished and he was killed in less than two months by terrorists."

Karkare died fighting terrorists during the Nov 26, 2008 attack in Mumbai. He had investigated against Sadhvi in connection with the blasts in Malegaon that year.

He was serving as the chief of Maharashtra's anti-terror squad during that period.

Pragya Singh Thakur is currently out on bail.
