Firearms factory busted in Kolkata, 4 held

Kolkata, Jul 28 (IBNS): Acting on a tip off, the Kolkata Police unearthed an illegal firearms manufacturing unit at Tiljala area in south-eastern part of the city on Friday early morning, officials said.

According to reports, police carried out raid at a multi-storey residential building at Chandranath Roy Road area under Tiljala Police Station limits and busted the arms factory.

A senior police official said that four firearms makers were arrested from the busted factory.

"Earlier on July 24, police from West Port Police Station arrested two residents of Bihar, Afroz Ahmed and Imtiaz Ahmed, and seized 2 semi automatic improvised pistols, 10 rounds ammunition and 4 magazines from their possessions," Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Port Division), Syed Waquar Raza, told IBNS.

"Based on the duo's statement, we raided a facility at Tiljala and busted the firearms manufacturing unit. We have also arrested four persons from the busted factory, who hail from Munger district of Bihar. they have been identified as Sourav Kumar (19), Md. Sonu (22), Md. Raju (22) and Md. Sarfaraz Alam alias Md. Raj (24)- ," Syed Waquar Raza said.

The police official said that several finished and unfinished firearms and gun making machines were recovered from the factory.

"We have seized eight pieces of 7.65 mm semi automatic improvised pistols (of which 2 are unfinished), 16 magazines, 50 rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition, 2 big lathe machines, one barrel drilling machine, a furnished lathe machine, 5 clamp machines, 2 metal polishing machines and a large quantity of tools including files, lack saws, hammers, vernier calliper, screw gauge and drilling machines," Raza added.

A senior official of city police told IBNS that the six arrested are being quizzed to get more information about the Kolkata-based gun manufacturing and selling racket.
