Food safety is the top most priority of the government: GM Eastern Railway.

Kolkata, May 18 (IBNS): There is no authorised unmanned level crossing in Kolkata, said Harindra Rao, General Manager, Eastern Railway here on Friday.

Speaking at an interactive session on "Eastern Railway-The Way Forward" held by the MCC Merchants' Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rao said that Railways giving top most priority to the safety of the passengers. Efforts are made to ensure improved safety standards of the food being served in trsin, he added.

Rao stated that Eastern Railway has very well performed during 2017.

17 stations have been brought so far under CCTV surveillance.

Rao added that in order to provide more hygiene and pleasant coach environment, 4335 Bio-Tanks in train coaches have been fitted during 2017-18.

A target of fitting 460 toilets per month has been fixed and only 1500 coaches remain to be fitted with bio-toilets, he added.

Ramesh Agarwal, President, MCCI; S.K.Das, Addl. General Manager, ER; S.S.Gehlot, Principal Chief Operations Manager, ER and D.K.Jha, Chief Freight Transportation Manager, ER were also present on the occasion.
