Former Bengal minister Upen Biswas resigns from TMC
Kolkata/IBNS: A day before the eighth and final phase of West Bengal assembly poll, ex-CBI Additional Director and former state minister, Upendra Nath Biswas, on Wednesday resigned from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party showing 'personal reasons', reports said.
According to reports, former TMC MLA from North 24 Parganas' Bagda AC, Upen Biswas, emailed his resignation letter to the party leadership in the morning.
"I do hereby resign from the membership of All India Trinamool Congress, CBI Adviser to Trinamool Congress, core committee, if so, and any other membership or any other responsibility of the party," Biswas wrote in his resignation letter.
Last year, Upen Biswas took a firm stand on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) against his party line and congratulated Union Home Minister Amit Shah on enacting the CAA.
Upen Biswas was elected from Bagda AC in 2011 Bengal assembly polls and was appointed as the minister of Backward Class Welfare.
Sources in the party said that Biswas had gone inactive in the party since 2018, nearly two years after he lost 2016's state assembly polls from the same seat.
