Bengaluru, Oct 26 (IBNS): Former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa has been acquitted by a Special CBI court on Wednesday of bribery charges related to illegal mining in the state, according to media reports.

Tweeted Yeddyurappa, "Justice is done, I stand vindicated... Thanks to all well wishers, friends & supporters who stood with me in my tough times...:"

He is a Lok Sabha Member from Shivamogga and the state president for BJP in Karnataka.

He was accused of accepting kickbacks worth 40 crores while he was chief minister, reported NDTV.

In August 2011, Yeddyurappa was forced to resign after Karnataka's ombudsman or Lokayukta, Santosh Hegde, indicted him for colluding in illegal iron-ore mining in the mineral-rich district of Bellary, according to NDTV.

He was also jailed for three weeks before being released on bail.

The special court has also declared the former chief minister's two sons and other relatives, who were being tried in the case, as not guitly, media reported.
