Fresh protests roil Kashmir, police say youth died in hand grenade blast

Srinagar, June 16 (IBNS) A twenty-year-old youth was killed during a clash between the policemen and protesters in South Kashmir’s Anantnag town on Saturday even as the police officials said the death occurred owing to the explosion of a hand grenade.

Media report said the young man was killed during "clashes" after the Eid prayers but later police said in an official statement that "preliminary investigation reveals that a hand grenade exploded resulting in the death of Sheraz Ahmad due to splinter injuries and his right hand got fully damaged."

Clashes between policemen and protesters, including stone pelters, poured in from various regions of Kashmir, including Sopore and Kupwara.

In Pulwama, protesters hit the streets over the killing of a teenager in an alleged firing by the Army.

Kashmir is roiled by fresh protest and killings, including of senior journalist and the editor of Rising Kashmir, Shujaat Bukhari, who was shot dead by unknown attackers in Srinagar on Thursday evening.

He was attacked when he stepped out of his office at Press Colony in the city in the evening. He was reportedly heading for an Iftar Party.

Bukhari was hit by multiple bullets which were shot at him from close range.

The attack on a senior journalist after a long time has shaken the entire Valley.

The valley also witnessed the death of Army rifleman Aurangzeb who was kidnapped by Hizbul terrorists and whose bullet-riddled body was found on Thursday,
