Guwahati jewellery shop robbery : Police arrest two, including a security guard

Guwahati, May 10 (IBNS) : The Crime branch of Guwahati city police has arrested two persons in connection with the jewellery loot from a shop in the capital city of Assam.

On Tuesday evening at around 7-10 pm, four armed men in mask looted around 8 kg gold jewellery worth of several crore rupees from a jeweller's shop  situated on the GS road in the city's  ABC area.

Following the incident, police launched an operation and arrested two persons, including a security guard of the jewellery shop, who was absent on Tuesday.

"Our team has arrested Prem Singh, the security guard of the jewellery shop and his associate Nilkamal Singh from Kumarikata area in Hojai district suspecting them for being involved  in the robbery incident," Guwahati city police commissioner Hiren Nath said.

"We have received several clues after checking CCTV footage. Police will arrest the other gang members soon," the top Assam police cop said.

An employee of the jewellery shop said  the robbers walked into the shop and looted the jewellery within 6-8 minutes.

"The armed men were conversing in Hindi and English," the employee of the jewellery shop said.
