Guwahati, Feb 15(UNI) Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today urged cooperation from all sections of people for smooth conduct of hearings of claim and objections of National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Sonowal chaired a meeting here today to discuss various issues pertaining to the claim and objection process during the ongoing NRC updating work.

The hearings for the claims and objections regarding NRC updation process have started from today at 1436 centres across the state.

In the final draft of NRC, names of 40.37 lakh applicants were not included, out of which 36.28 lakh have claimed for inclusion and 2 lakh people have registered their objections.

Saying that the process for preparing an error free NRC has been going on under the direct supervision of Supreme Court in which both the central and state governments have extended support, the chief minister called on all officials engaged in the work to ensure smooth completion of the hearing process of claims and objections.

On the other hand, the chief minister also appreciated the peaceful environment maintained by people during the publication of the first and the second drafts of NRC.

He appealed for upholding the same peace and harmony during the hearing process of claims and objections in 1436 centres.

He also urged the officials engaged in the process to work with dedication to make the entire exercise a success.
