High Level Committee asks Land Record Directorate to conduct fresh survey of Shillong Punjabi Lane

Shillong, June 8 (IBNS): The High Level Committee (HLC) constituted by Conrad Sangma-led Meghalaya government following the Shillong violence on Friday asked the state Directorate of Land Record and Survey to conduct a fresh survey of Sweeper’s Colony at Them Iew Mawlong (Punjabi Lane) in Shillong. 

The committee was constituted on June 4 with Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong as chairman and the first meeting was held on June 6 last.

In the second meeting held in Shillong, the Committee has been asked the Directorate of Land Record and Survey to complete the survey works within 10 days after receiving the letter from the state Urban Affairs department.

Deputy Chief Minister Tynsong said that, some of the area is under the Municipal corporation and the rest under the Syiem of Mylliem.

"The committee will also collect information about the fourth grade employees, who are working under various departments and residing at that area," Tynsong said.

The committee includes State Tourism Minister, Metbah Lyngdoh, HSPDP legislator, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling, Health Minister A L Hek, Home Minister James K Sangma, Sports Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh, Chief Executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, P N Syiem as members and Commissioner and Secretary D P Wahlang as member secretary.

The committee was constituted to find a permanent solution to the long pending issue of the relocation of sweeper’s colony from Them Iew Mawlong (Punjabi Lane).
