New Delhi, Jan 15 (IBNS): Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Sunday mocked the joining of former BJP leader Navjot Singh Sidhu to the Congress and said hofully he did not get drown in the 'singking ship'.

"Navjot Singh Siddhu is a great colleague. I hope he doesn't get drowned in a singking ship. India had tolerated Congress for 60 long years," Kiren Rijiju tweeted.

Ahead of the Punjab Assembly Elections, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu joined the Congress party on Sunday.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi welcomed  Sidhu into the party.

Congress leader Randeep S Surjewala tweeted: "INC welcomes S.Navjot Singh Sidhu & thanks Rahul Gandhiji for bringing likeminded leaders under the Congress umbrella."

This came after yet another meeting with Rahul Gandhi on Sunday. The meeting is the second one in four days.

It was doing rounds in the media for a long time that Sidhu might joined the Congress party owning to frequent meetings of the former cricketer with Rahul.

Sidhu had resigned from the Rajya Sabha on July 18 over differences with the BJP party.

Sidhu had been upset with the BJP since 2014, when his parliamentary constituency of Amritsar was assigned to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who lost the election.
