Hyatt Regency Hotel in Mumbai shuts down due to lack of funds

Mumbai/IBNS: The Hyatt Regency, one of Mumbai's top 5-star hotels, will shut operations "until further notice" due to constrained finances as the hotel authorities said they have no money to pay salaries, said media reports.

According to an NDTV report, hotel General Manager Hardeep Marwah said the parent company had not sent money for operations.

"This is to inform all the on-roll staff of the hotel that no funds are forthcoming from Asian Hotels (West) Ltd, the owner of Hyatt Regency Mumbai, to enable payment of salaries or to support the operations of the hotel," Mr Marwah wrote.

"As a consequence, the decision has been taken to temporarily suspend all operations...with immediate effect. The hotel will remain closed until further notice."

The hotel is owned by Asian Hotels (West) Ltd. It is one of the most posh hotel properties located near Mumbai airport.

The hotel industry in India received a major blow as the coronavirus pandemic forced business activities to a bare minimum and tourist arrivals to nil in 2020. Just when the hotel and tourism industry was beginning to look up, the second wave dealt another blow early this year, making it difficult for many to continue operations.
