Srinagar:  IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar has said as many as 78 terrorists have been neutralized in Jammu and Kashmir in 2021.

"Two (a total of two) local terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed. With today's operation, police along with security forces neutralised 78 terrorists in the valley so far this year," Kumar was quoted as saying in a statement as reported by ANI.

"In these encounters, most of the terrorists (39 out of 78) were affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT followed by Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), Al-Badr, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Gazwat-ul-Hind," he said.

Two unidentified militants were killed by security forces in an encounter in Srinagar on Friday.

A Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, CRPF and Rashtriya Rifles (RR) in the wee hours of Friday at Alamdar Colony Danmar in Srinagar following a tip off about the presence of militants, a police spokesman said.
