Thrissur/IBNS/UNI: Sounding the poll bugle for the upcoming Lok Sabha poll, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday lashed out at the Congress and Left in Kerala for creating impediments in implementing several projects for the development of the state.

Addressing a mammoth rally of women at the sprawling Thekkinkadu Maidan in the heart of Thrissur town, PM Modi said the INDIA alliance has a common agenda of defeating the BJP.

"They have no interest in taking the country forward. Both the Congress and the Left are not interested in implementing any developmental projects beneficial to the common people," he said.

Whether it is highways, airports, or railways, the state government is not cooperating with the Centre, the PM alleged.

The Congress which ruled for many years never thought of passing the women's reservation bill. It was only the BJP government that succeeded in passing the bill in Parliament, PM Modi said.

He accused the Left party of hurting the feelings of the people regarding the Sabarimala issue and also Thrissur Pooram lovers.

During his 40-minute speech, he also touched upon a reception he hosted at his residence for the Christian leaders who gave them full support for the developmental works of his government.

The rally which was attended by more than two lakh women and an equal number of men is being viewed as BJP's election campaign for the Lok Sabha poll.

PM Modi said Sthree Shakthi Karanam (Empowerment of women) is the basic thing that can take the country to progress.

"Modi will also give a guarantee to security, safety, and your economic self-reliance," the Prime Minister told them amid great applause.

On his arrival in the town, a road show was conducted in which he stood atop a jeep and waved thousands of people on both sides of the one km route to the venue of the rally.

Textile entrepreneur Beena Kannan, actor Sobha, singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi, cricketer Minnu Mani, and BJP MP P T Usha shared the dais with the Prime Minister.

BJP has identified Thrissur as a priority constituency and former MP Suresh Gopi is certain that he will contest the election.
