India, Chile advance CEPA talks, aim to conclude negotiations by year-end
New Delhi: India and Chile have advanced negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), aiming to conclude the talks by the end of 2026, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said Sunday.
Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal met Chile’s Vice-Minister of International Economic Relations Paula Estévez Weinstein in Santiago on August 26 to discuss progress on the proposed trade agreement.
The two sides stressed the need for a balanced and mutually beneficial pact that would create commercially meaningful opportunities for businesses in both countries, according to the ministry.
Agrawal highlighted the potential to expand economic cooperation in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, energy, minerals, agriculture, machinery and engineering.
India said the CEPA could provide fresh momentum to bilateral trade and investment while strengthening cooperation in technology, talent and resilient supply chains.
Both countries also emphasised their shared identity as members of the Global South and their common strategic interests as a foundation for deeper economic cooperation.
India remains committed to concluding the negotiations this year, the ministry said, with the agreement expected to open new opportunities for trade and investment and strengthen long-term economic ties between the two countries.
