India deports 20 more Bangladeshis through Assam’s Karimganj border

Guwahati, May 4 (IBNS): While the updation process of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is going on in Assam to detect the illegal foreigners, the Assam government on Saturday has deported 20 Bangladeshi nationals to Bangladesh.

The 20 Bangladeshi nationals including a female have been deported through legal procedures from International border at Sutarkandi in Karimganj district to Bangladesh.

According to the reports, the Bangladeshi nationals entered into India without valid documents from different parts of Assam and Meghalaya at different times.

They were arrested earlier and lodged at Silchar and Kokrajhar detention camp in past 2-5 years.

A top official of Assam police said that, among the 20 Bangladeshi nationals, 19 were lodged at Silchar detention camp, while one woman was lodged at Kokrajhar detention camp.

The deported Bangladeshi nationals were identified as Sujit Chandra Das, Iqbal Hussain Talukdar, Muhammad Ishaq Ali, Mohammad Azim Uddin, Amed Uddin, Samir Ahmed, Abdul Gafur (all from Sylhet district, Bangladesh), Rabindra Das, Digendra Chandra Das, Shah Ali Miya, Mohammad Ibrahim Talukdar, Faruq Mishra, Saiyad Al Amin, Rabiul Sardar, Parimal Jaldas (all from Kishoreganj district, Bangladesh) and Alo Rani Das.

Officials of Union Home ministry, Assam government, Assam police, Border Security Force (BSF), Bangladesh Border Guards were present during the deportation process.

Earlier, India had deported 21 Bangladeshi nationals on January 19 this year through Karimganj-Bangladesh border.

On the other hand, India had deported 52 Bangladeshi nationals from Assam’s Mankachar check post in July last year.

In 2017, 17 Bangladeshi nationals were deported to Bangladesh through the international border in Assam’s Karimganj district.

989 Bangladeshi nationals were deported in 2014, while the figure was 474 in 2015 and 308 in 2016.
