"India is a changed country" : Modi assures German companies
Hannover, Apr 13 (IBNS) Showcasing the country as an ideal investment destination, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at an Indo-German Business Summit that India has fast-tracked approvals in industry and infrastructure.
"I am here to assure the German companies that India is now a changed country." he said.
Modi also said that India has "removed lot of regressive taxation regimes," observing that the economic partnership of both the countries "is not as much as what both nations would like to have.
In the morning the PM inaugurated the India Pavilion at the Hannover Messe, the world's largest trade fair, along with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
He thanked Germany for inviting India to be a partner at the fair and noted that over 400 Indian companies are participating.
Making a joint statement with Merkel, Modi pitched India's potential as a manufacturing hub.
The backdrop to the big stage at the India Pavilion was the lion logo of the 'Make in India' campaign.
"I want to thank you for allowing us to unleash our lions in this city... the lions are a symbol of new India," the PM said, referring to the 'Make in India' logo of a lion.
Modi wound up his visit to the Hannover trade fair with a chat over tea with the German Chancellor after making a robust marketing campaign for the country saying, "Demography, democracy and demand make India attractive to the world today."
Forty-five celebrity chefs from India served mango lassi to the German Chancellor and prepared Gujarati treats like khandvis and dhoklas for Modi.
The two leaders had a cup of tea together after the inauguration.
The PM leaves for Berlin on Monday after an interaction with Indian CEOs.
In Berlin, he will meet members of the Indian community in Germany.
Amid a storm over revelation of de-classified intelligence reports that the family of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was being spied upon for two decades, the grandnephew of the freedom fighter is likely to meet Modi in Berlin.
On Sunday, speaking at the inauguration of the fair, the PM promised global investors in presence of Merkel all possible steps to make it easy to do business in India.
Modi is on a nine-day tour of three countries. He spent three days in France before landing in Germany for a two-day visit. He goes to Canada from Germany.
