India to host first BRICS water ministers' meet

Brasilia, Nov 15 (UNI) Prime minister Narendra Modi has proposed to host the first meeting of BRICS Water Ministers in the country.

Modi made the proposal while addressing the plenary session of 11th BRICS Summit here.

"Sustainable water management and sanitation are important challenges in urban areas. I propose to hold the first meeting of BRICS Water Ministers in India," he said.

The Prime Minister also announced that India will hold a BRICS Digital Health Summit.

He said India had recently started the "Fit India Movement" and that there should be increased exchange among BRICS countries on fitness and health.

Modi also announced his intention to ink a BRICS Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on traditional medicine.

The BRICS leaders in their summit declaration welcomed the creation of the BRICS Network of Human Milk Banks as proposed in the firstst Workshop of Human Milk Banks.

They emphasized the importance of collective action in promoting research and development of medicines and diagnostic tools to end epidemics, to combat communicable diseases and to facilitate access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines, as well as activities to strengthen non-communicable diseases prevention.
