New Delhi, May 23 (IBNS) : The Indian army on Tuesday said it has destroyed many Pakistani posts across the Line of Control (LoC) in punitive fire assaults launched to stop them aiding infiltrators to India.

“Punitive army assaults are being undertaken along the LoC. Pakistan army posts aiding infiltration in Jammu and Kashmir are being targeted,” Indian army spokesperson Major General Ashok Narula said while addrsessing the media at  an emergency briefing in New Delhi’s South Block.

“Pakistani army has been providing full support to infiltrators by engaging Indian Army posts,”  he said.

The purpose of the engagement was to “bring down the number of terrorists in Kashmir so that local youth are not encouraged to take up arms”, Major General Narula said.

He said the actions in Naushera  have caused damage to Pakistan army posts.

The “fire assault” follows the beheading of two Indian jawans by militants from Pakistan earlier this month.

Major Genral Narula said instance of infiltration are likely to increase with the melting of snow.
