Indian foreign secy raises terror issues with Pakistan
Islamabad, Mar 3 (IBNS): Indian Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar held crucial talks with his Pakistani counterpart Aizaz Ahmed Choudhary in Islamabad on Tuesday where he raised concerns on cross border terrorism.
"I reiterated our known concerns on cross border terrorism, including on the Mumbai case. We agreed that ensuring peace and tranquillity on the border was vital," S Jaishankar said after his talks with Chaudhary.
"Our talks were held in a constructive and positive atmosphere," said he.
Resuming talks after a hiatus of seven months, Jaishankar discussed ideas and initiatives to take SAARC forward.
"Pakistan will be the next SAARC Chair and India would like to work with Pakistan to help SAARC achieve its potential," he said.
"Naturally, my visit provided an opportunity to discuss our bilateral relations. We engaged on each other’s concerns and interests in an open manner. We agreed to work together to find common ground and narrow differences," the foreign secretary added.
Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi telephoned Nawaz Sharif to discuss the foreign secretary's visit to Islamabad.
India had said the purpose of Jaishankar's visit was mainly to explore the "process of normalisation" between the two countries.
