Indian national abduction in Afghanistan: One held
Kabul, June 4 (IBNS): The Afghan security forces have arrested a man in connection with the kidnap of an Indian national in western Herat province of Afghanistan, media reports said on Wednesday.
The head of the JRS non-governmental organization, Prem Kumar was abducted by unknown gunmen three days ago from Zendjan district, Afghanistan's Khaama Press reported quoting a local government official.
Prem Kumar was reportedly visiting a project site when unknown gunmen abducted him.
"Provincial security chief, Gen. Samiullah Qatra, said Afghan police and intelligence operatives have launched a search operation to free the abducted Indian aid worker," Khaama Press reported.
"In the meantime, local residents in Zendjan district are saying that the kidnappers might have taken the Indian aid worker to Gulran district," the news agency reported.
The suspect, who has been arrested in connection with the abduction, is in custody for further investigation.
No group has claimed responsibility for the abduction so far.
