Indian President, PM congratulate Team Australia
New Delhi, Mar 29 (IBNS): Indian President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated Team Australia as it won the World Cup trophy for the fifth time after defeating New Zealand in the final clash in Melbourne.
Pranab Mukherjee tweeted: "Congratulations to Australia on its fifth World Cup win."
Congratulating the team, Narendra Modi tweeted: "I congratulate the Australian cricket team for yet another World Cup victory. A very good performance."
Australia defeated New Zealand by seven wickets in the final to clinch the Word Cup title for the fifth time here on Sunday.
Chasing 184 to win, Australia reached the target of 186 runs by losing three wickets wickets with 101 balls to spare.
Skipper Michael Clarke, who played his last ODI innings, played a matured and memorable knock of 74 runs to guide his side to victory and lift the title for the first time as the skipper of the national side which have dominated the cricketing world for decades.
