India's iconic Qutub Minar is illuminated in Turkish flag to mark country's 100th Republic Day

India's iconic Qutub Minar was illuminated on Sunday (October 29, 2023) with a Turkish flag to mark the 100th anniversary of Turkey’s proclamation as a republic.

The country's Embassy in New Delhi posted on X: " New Delhi’s iconic monument Qutub Minar, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates back to the 13th century, was illuminated with to commemorate the centenary of the Republic of Türkiye."

"Turkish Republic is 100 years old! Happy Republic Day!" the statement said.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan greeted the nation on the special day by posting a special message on X.

He said: "We celebrated our Republic Day with an enthusiasm befitting the 100th anniversary of our Republic. I thank my nation for sharing this enthusiasm."

"On this occasion, I would like to inform you that we have decided to close our pre-school, primary, secondary and high schools for 1 day on Monday, October 30th," Turkish leader wrote.
