An IndiGo flight from Kolkata to Srinagar made an emergency landing at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday following reports of a fuel leak, media reports said.

All 166 passengers and crew members on board were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

According to airport authorities, the aircraft landed safely and the situation was brought under control swiftly. “The incident is under investigation, and normal flight operations have resumed,” a police official confirmed.

Flight 6E 6961, operating on the Kolkata–Srinagar route, made a precautionary landing after a suspected technical issue was detected mid-air.

In a statement, an IndiGo spokesperson said: “As a safety measure, the aircraft has been grounded for necessary checks, and an alternate aircraft has been arranged to continue the journey.”

“At IndiGo, the safety of our passengers, crew, and aircraft is our top priority. We appreciate our customers’ patience and cooperation as our teams work to minimize any inconvenience,” the airline added.

Authorities said the emergency response teams at the Varanasi airport acted promptly to ensure all passengers were safely disembarked.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been notified, and a detailed inspection of the aircraft is underway.
