'INS Vikrant is a symbol of India's self-reliance and Make in India': Modi celebrating Diwali with Armed Forces

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday called INS Vikrant "a symbol of India's self-reliance and Make in India" during his customary Diwali celebrations with the Indian Armed Forces.

Modi, who has always celebrated his Diwali with the Armed Forces since he became the PM, spent Diwali this year with the Navy personnel onboard INS Vikrant off the coast of Goa and Karwar (Karnataka).

Speaking to the personnel, Modi renewed his pitch for self-reliance or Aatmanirbharta in all spheres of life including Defence, where a large sum of money is allocated for indigenous weapons.

Modi said, "INS Vikrant is today a very big symbol of India's self-reliance and Make in India. The indigenous INS Vikrant, tearing through the ocean... is a reflection of India's military capability."

"Over the last decade, our defense exports have increased by more than 30 times, and behind this success, defense startups have played a very big role, as have indigenous defense units."

Touching upon Operation Sindoor where the terrorists hideouts in Pakistan were busted within half-an-hour, the PM said, "The extraordinary coordination between our three services brought Pakistan to its knees in record time. I once again salute the brave hearts of the Armed Forces."

"When the threat is real and conflict seems possible, the advantage always lies with those who can stand and fight on their own strength. For our forces to be truly effective, it is vital that they remain strong, capable and self-reliant," he added.

The Operation Sindoor was conducted by the Indian Armed Forces on May 7 to bust the terror camps in Pakistan in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.

Earlier in the day, Modi wished the countrymen on the occasion of Diwali appealing to people to buy Indian products as the government is giving a strong push for Aatmanirbhar Bharat in the backdrop of tariff war with the United States.

The PM wrote on X, " Greetings on the occasion of Diwali. May this festival of lights illuminate our lives with harmony, happiness and prosperity. May the spirit of positivity prevail all around us."

He also shared an advertisement appealing to buy indigenous products, Modi said, " Let’s mark this festive season by celebrating the hardwork, creativity and innovation of 140 crore Indians. Let’s buy Indian products and say- Garv Se Kaho Yeh Swadeshi Hai! Do also share what you bought on social media. This way you will inspire others to also do the same."
