INX media money laundering case : Karti Chidambaram granted bail by HC

New Delhi, Mar 23 (IBNS) :  The Delhi High Court on Friday granted bail to Karti Chidambaram, son of senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, 22 days after he was arrested in connection with the INX Media corruption case, media reports said.

The court of Justice S P Garg granted bail to Karti, a businessman, on a surety of Rs 10 lakh. The court directed him not to  travel outside country and close bank accounts.

The HC also ordered him to cooperate with CBI and not influence the witness or tamper with evidence.

The court had reserved its verdict on March 16 after hearing arguments on Karti's bail plea which the CBI had opposed.

Karti has been accused of getting Government clearance for foreign investments worth around Rs. 300 crore in television company INX Media in exchange for bribes in 2007. It has been alleged that he used the clout of his father who was then the Union Finance Minister.

Denying the charges, the 46-year-old businessman has  claimed that the case against him has been fabricated as part of  "political vendetta".
