Three Indian nationals, who travelled to Iran, are currently missing, the Indian Embassy in Tehran said.

The Indian Embassy said efforts are ongoing to trace them 'urgently'.

"Family members of 3 Indian citizens have informed the Embassy of India that their relatives are missing after having travelled to Iran," the Embassy said in a statement.

"The Embassy has strongly taken up this matter with the Iranian authorities, and requested that the missing Indians should be urgently traced and their safety should be ensured," the statement further said.

The Embassy said the family members of the missing Indian nationals are regularly updated about the efforts taken by them.

Kidnapped Individuals Belong To Punjab

All three Indian nationals belonged to the north Indian state of Punjab, NDTV reported.

They were identified as Hushanpreet Singh (Sangrur), Jaspal Singh (SBS Nagar) and Amritpal Singh (Hoshiarpur).

They reportedly went missing after landing in Tehran on May 1.

Agent Promised To Send Them To Australia

An agent in Punjab had promised the three men to send them to Australia via the Dubai-Iran route, reported the Indian news channel.

Despite receiving assurance that they would be provided a stay in Iran, the three Indian nationals were kidnapped after they reached they reached the city.

The families told the news channel that the kidnappers are demanding Rs. 1 crore as ransom.

A video of the men tied up in yellow ropes and blood dripping from their arms was sent by the kidnappers, the families told NDTV.

They claimed the kidnappers threatened to kill them if their demands were not met.

The families claimed the kidnapped individuals kept in touch with them through the phones of their abductors.

However, they have not been in touch with them since May 11, the family members claimed.

The agent from Hoshiarpur, who reportedly sent them, is currently missing.
