New Delhi/IBNS: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar visited Mamata Banerjee at Kolkata's SSKM hospital after the later was injured as she was allegedly manhandled by four-five people in 'complete absence' of her security guards at Nandigram in East Medinipur district of poll-bound West Bengal.

TMC supporters gathered there and shouted 'Go back' slogan to the governor, and threw shoes aiming at Dhankar's car.

Earlier Dhankar called SSKM hospital to enquire about her health condition.

Sources in the Union Home Ministry said that the Centre is ready to provide security to Mamata Banerjee.

TMC supporters are staging protests against the alleged attack on Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata and across the state.

Newly appointed West Bengal DGP gathered information regarding the incident from East Medinipur SP.

The alleged incident occured during her election campaign.

Meanwhile, Banerjee is being taken to Bangur Institute of Neurosciences from SSKM hospital for Advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

The Bengal Chief Minister earlier claimed that she had sustained multiple injuries in legs, hands and forehead.

"When I was at a temple in Nandigram, four-five persons intentionally pushed me and manhandled me, it is clearly a conspiracy against me," Mamata Banerjee alleged.

"When the incident happened, neither the SP nor any local policeman was present there," Banerjee, who gets Z-plus category security by the state, claimed.

In a statement, the TMC said: "After widespread response from the people of Nandigram Block-1 yesterday, Ms Mamata Banerjee visited several places of Nandigram Block II after filing nomination at Haldia. She offered Puja in one after another temple. There was a massive response from people everywhere."

"At about 6.15 pm, when she was about to leave Birulia Anchal after performing Puja in a temple, a few unknown persons pushed her to the car and forcibly shut down the door, as a result of which she sustained injuries in her left leg and also suffered severe pain in the waist. She, thereafter, left for Kolkata to get proper treatment," it added.
