Jaitley counters Rahul, says bluster no substitute for statistics

New Delhi, July 28 (IBNS): It seemed to be a day of war of words with Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley countering Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's attack on PM Narendra Modi over inflation issue aided by his "statistics".
"Any form of bluster is not a substitute of statistics," Jaitley told Gandhi during a debate on prices in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Rahul Gandhi  earlier in the day hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government's policies and highlighted the severe impact of inflation on common man.

"You make as many empty wishes you wish but please give a date to this House when the price of lentils will reduce," Gandhi said while speaking at the Lok Sabha.

He said: "You must help big industrialists but you should also not forget poor people of this nation."

Replying to Gandhi's jibes, Jaitley said: "You are talking about a government which left behind double digit inflation and today we have a situation where steps have been taken in each sector to contain inflation."

Jaitley said, "This is a topic of statistics and not sloganeering. The UPA had left government in a serious state and it is but natural that any contesting candidate before election would say that if I come to power, I will try to bring inflation down. No one should have any objection to that."

Attacking the PM on the increasing price of lentils, Gandhi said: "All across villages, a  new slogan has emerged-Arhar Modi."

He said the Congress will play the role of 'security guards' for the people of India.

"You wanted to play the role of 'chowkidaar' (security guard) for the people of India. I am asking you to leave that task for us," the Congress leader said.
