SRINAGAR:  Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday evening dissolved the state assembly amid claims and counter claims to form governments by the  People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti in alliance with her arch rivals and People's Conference leader Sajad Lone.

While Mufti is backed by the Congress and her main political rival in the state  National Conference of Omar Abdullah, Sajad Lone is supported by the BJP.

Governor's rule was imposed in the state in June after the BJP ended its alliance with the PDP.

After the assembly was dissolved, Omar Abdullah tweeted: "@JKNC_ has been pressing for assembly dissolution for 5 months now. It can't be a coincidence that within minutes of @MehboobaMufti letter staking claim the order to dissolve the assembly suddenly appears."

Sajad Lone also claimed the form the government though he has only two lawmakers. But he is supported by the BJP with 25 MLAs.

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti (with 28 MLAs) tweeted a letter, claiming support of the Congress (12 MLAs) and National Conference (15 MLAs). She said she has a combined strenght of 56 in the 87-member house.
