Jammu and Kashmir: Encounter going on between terrorists, security forces in Bandipora

Srinagar/IBNS: An encounter between security forces and terrorists is currently going on in Jammu-Kashmir's Bandipora region on Sunday, officials said.

The Indian Army, Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a joint cordon-and-search operation after receiving inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area, reported Times Now.

Kashmir Police Zone tweeted: "#Encounter has started at #Bandipora. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice."

Encounter is currently going on.

Official sources told UNI that following specific information about the presence of militants in Bandipora, a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police, Army and CRPF in the area.

However, when security forces were cordoning off the area, militants hiding there fired at them with automatic weapons. ''The security forces retaliated, ensuing in an encounter,'' they said.

Additional security forces have been rushed from nearby camps to further cordon off the area to foil any attempt by the militants to escape, the sources added.
