Jammu and Kashmir: Govt sanctions 6 transit accommodation for Kashmiri migrant employees in valley

Srinagar: The government on Wednesday approved the construction of six transit accommodation for Kashmiri migrant employees in the valley under Prime Minister''s development package 

The total cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 201.60 crore.

According to the government order, administrative approval was accorded sanction for the construction of transit accommodation for Kashmiri migrant employees at six places in the valley at a cost of Rs 201.60 crore under Prime Minister''s development package.

The locations include Marhama-Bijbehara in Anantnag district, Wandhama-Lar in Ganderbal district, Fatehpora in Baramulla district, Allowpora-Keegam in Shopian district, Odina-Sumbal in Bandipora district and Khullangam Bagh in Kupwara district.

The order reads that the proper rate analysis and market survey is conducted in light of standing rules and procedures. “Incase of all the items proposed to be executed on ground prior to issuance of formal NIT, in order to ensure rationality of rates,” it said.

A total of 1,680 units would be constructed to accommodate the migrant employees with the highest number of 480 units coming up in Bandipora at the cost of Rs 57.60 crore, followed by 336 in Baramulla, at the cost of Rs 40.32 crore, 288 in Kupwara at the cost of Rs 34.56 crore and 192 each in rest of the in Anatnang, Ganderbal and Shopian at the cost of Rs 23.04 each.

“There shall be no cost overrun and the project be completed within the set timeline,” the order reads.

Similarly, the physical and financial progress of the work shall be communicated to the administrative department by or 5th of every succeeding month as per the devised format.

About 4,500 Kashmiri pandits were provided government jobs in the valley under the special package announced by the Centre in 2008 but many of them are sharing accommodation.
