Jammu and Kashmir: Militant killed in during encounter with security forces in Shopian

Srinagar/UNI:  A terrorist was killed during an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir district of Shopian early Friday.

A police official told UNI that following specific information about presence of militants, a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K police, Army and CRPF in the Keegam area of Shopian in the wee hours.

When security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons.

“The security forces retaliated, ensuing in an encounter,” the official said, adding that a militant was killed in the exchange of fire.

Operation was still going on when the reports last came in.
