Jammu and Kashmir: Police file charge sheet in Bandipora minor rape case

Srinagar, May 25 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday filed a charge-sheet in rape case of a three –year-old girl before special court of Principal District and Session Judge (PDSJ), Bandipora, official sources said.

The charge sheet was filed in a record 17 days from the commission of the rape in Sumbal area of Bandipora district.


Massive protests erupted across the Kashmir valley besides in Kargil district of Ladakh region and some areas in Jammu after the incident, demanding stern action against the accused who has been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) section 3 and 5 and 376 a, b and 342 RPC. A youth was killed and scores others, including security force and state police personnel were injured in the clashes.


Governor Satya Pal Malik also directed police to complete investigations in the case on a fast track basis.


The state police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the rape case and the accused was arrested.


The governor had also directed the Divisional Commissioner and the Inspector General of Police of Kashmir to personally monitor the investigation.
