Srinagar/UNI/IBNS: A brief gunfight broke between militants and security forces in the premises of a prominent Srinagar hospital on Friday, triggering panic among people.

Police said the militants, however, managed to escape from the spot.

The exchange of fire took place in the premises of SKIMS Bemina Srinagar.

"There was a brief fire fight between terrorists and security forces at SKIMS Hospital, Bemina. Terrorists managed to escape taking advantage of civilian presence. @JmuKmrPolice @KashmirPolice," a tweet by Srinagar police said.

Sources told UNI police had an input about the presence of militants in the hospital following which a small team of security men launched the operation.

" When the terrorists were challenged they opened fire triggering a brief shootout. They fled taking advantage of the people in the hospital, " the sources said.

Soon after the incident, a large number of security personnel cordoned the adjoining area to trace the fleeing militants.
