Anantnag: At least two unidentified terrorists died during an operation conducted in Anantnag region of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

Kashmir Police Zone tweeted: " #AnantnagEncounterUpdate: 02 unidentified #terrorists killed. #Operation in progress. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice."

Police said the operation is still going on.

" #Encounter has started at Kwarigam, Ranipora area of #Anantnag. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice," read another tweet.

According to a police spokesman, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint Cordoned and Search Operation (CASO) at Kwarigam, Ranipora Anantnag today.

However, an encounter ensued after militants fired upon security forces when they were sealing the area.

He said two militants were killed and the operation was continuing when the reports last came in.

All roads leading to the encounter site have been sealed and additional security forces deployed in the adjoining villages to prevent any law and order.

Local residents told UNI over phone that farmers who were working in their orchards and fields also rushed to their houses and stayed indoor after the encounter broke out.

With these killings, security forces have neutralized six militants in three different encounters since July 7.
