Jayalalithaa continues to be under medical support, experts monitoring condition, says hospital

Chennai, Oct 10 (IBNS): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa continues to be under treatment and is being “constantly monitored by experts, a statement from Apollo Hospitals said on Monday.

“Necessary respiratory support, antibiotics, nutrition, supportive therapy and passive physiotherapy are given,” the statement said.

Jayalalithaa was admitted to the hospital on September 22 with fever and respiratory problems.

A stream of visitors, including Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Governor P. Sathasivam, visited the hospital.

Vijayan, accompanied by Sathasivam, visited the hospital and held discussions with hospital CMD Prathap Reddy.

"We met Dr Pathap Reddy and other doctors providing treatment to the Chief Minister. The specialists informed us that she was getting good response from the treatment," Sathasivam told reporters.

"And within a short period, she is likely to be discharged and it is possible for her to take charge of administration. We also pray for her speedy recovery," he said.

Vijayan said they had come to "convey the collective good wishes of the people of Kerala."

Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi also visited the hospital and said she was informed by Reddy that Jayalalithaa was "progressing."

Jayalalithaa's health gave rise to high speculations primarily because of lack of proper information flow.

The opposition demanded that the present photograph of Jaylalithaa be released to shoot down rumours and the  ruling AIADMK name a stand-in person to officiate during Jayalalithaa's absence.

The Madras High Court has, however, rejected both the demands when a petitioner made similar plea.

Meanwhile, the AIADMK has launched a social media campaign to dispel all rumours over the CM's health condition.
