Jaish-e-Mohhamad (JeM) commander and key handler in 2016 Pathankot Indian Air Force (IAF) base attack Shahid Latif was shot dead by unknown attackers in Pakistan’s Sialkot city on Tuesday, media reports said.

Designated as an “individual terrorist” under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), Latif, 41, was killed inside a mosque,  Indian intelligence officials told Hindustan Times.

According to reports, he was the mastermind behind planning and coordinating several terror attacks in India.

An Interpol red notice was pending against Latif but like other terror leaders, he roamed freely in Pakistan and was involved in planning and execution of attacks in India, reports Hindustan Times.

He has reportedly guided the four terrorists who attacked who carried out the terror attack at the Pathankot airbase in India in 2016.

Seven security personnel were martyred and another 20 injured when six terrorists crossed the border and launched the massive attack on the air base. All of the terrorists were eliminated after a three-day battle.

The Indian government had designated Shahid Latif as a most wanted terrorist in 2010.

He was arrested in India in 1994 on terror charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

He was put on trial and eventually jailed.

He reportedly spent 16 years in Kot Balwal, Jammu jail, alongside Masood Azhar.

After the completion of his sentencing term in India, he was deported to Pakistan via Wagah in 2010.
