Jharkhand: Rs 51 lakh seized from a car in Ranchi three days before polls

Ranchi, May 3 (UNI) A joint team of the CBI and the local police has seized cash worth nearly Rs 51 lakh from a car under Namkum Police Station area of the state capital.

Police has caught the car owner who has been identified as Niranjan Prasad who is the suspended mining officer of Lohardaga district alongwith two women who were also in the car.

CBI inspector Srikant Jha said, a secret tip off had been received that money was being brought to Ranchi to influence the voters in a car after which with the help of the Namkum police the vehicle search drive was launched.

He said, during the checking drive a yellow colour 'Nano' car was apprehended and upon searching the vehicle cash worth Rs 50,91,800 was recovered.
Polling in Ranchi is schedule in the 5th phase on May 6 while campaigning on the seat will come to an end tomorrow.
