Judge Loya death case hearing : SC bench ask for all documents

A three-member bench headed by  Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra,asked the Maharashtra and the Bombay Lawyers' Association to furnish the documents.

These two associations had filed a petition at the Bombay High Court on the case.

Judge Loya, who was hearing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case in which BJP President Amit Shah was an accused,  died of a heart attack in 2014. His death raised questions from certain quarters about the possibility of a foul play.

Amit Shah was an accused. Amit Shah was discharged by a new judge, who said there wasn't enough evidence to merit a trial.

The two other judges in Chief Justice Dipak Misra's bench are Justice DY Chandrach ud and Justice AM Khanwilkar. They will take up the case again on February 2.

The Loya case was earlier  assigned to a bench that four dissenting senior judgeshad believed was not suitable.

The four  senior judges-  Justices Jasti Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan B Lokur and Kurian Joseph- alleged that cases with far reaching consequences were assigned to selective judges.

Justice Chelameswar, who represented the four judges in front of the media, said they had approached the CJI with a letter but failed to convince him.

The press meet thus was the last option left for the judges, Justice Chelameswar said.

Last week, the CJI met the four rebel judges three times to settle the dispute.
