Lucknow , Sep 9 (UNI) Giving a boost to the party's Ram temple movement, former governor of Rajasthan and ex-Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh rejoined active politics and took a fresh membership of the BJP here on Monday.

UP BJP president Swantrantra Deo Singh, handed over the fresh membership to the senior party leader and welcomed him in the party fold.

"The rejoining of a senior leader like Kalyan Singh will certainly boost the party's base," said the state BJP president after joining of the leader.

Singh, however, in his brief interaction with the media, said he is a disciplined party worker and will work as per the directive of the leadership.

"Though my age is not on my side, but still I will do whatever the party directs me to do," he said.

Senior party leaders including former Union minister Shiv Pratap Shukla, , Kalyan's MP son Rajveer Singh were among the prominent ones who were present on the occasion. He will stay at the residence of his grandson and UP minister Sandeep Singh, who has been allotted the same bungalow, where he stayed as the CM of the state.

Earlier, Kalyan Singh was given a rousing welcome at the Lucknow airport on his arrival from Jaipur ,where he attended the oath ceremony of Kalraj Mishra, who has become the new governor of Rajasthan.

The entire state capital has been covered with banners and hoardings of Kalyan Singh on rejoining the party.

Two time UP CM, Kalyan Singh( 87) is a big Lodh leader in the state and his son is currently the BJP MP from Etah while his grandson Sandeep Singh is the state minister in the Yogi Adityanath ministry.

Kalyan Singh, who was the chief minister of UP when Babri mosque in Ayodhya was razed down in 1992 and is also an accused in demolition case along with BJP veterans Lal Krishna Advani, Uma Bharti and Murli Manohar Joshi.

A firebrand Hindutva leader and prominent face of the Ram mandir movement, rejoining the BJP and return to active politics is being seen by political analysts as yet another push by the BJP to further its Ram Mandir agenda ahead of 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.

Also, his return might help the party in wooing the OBCs, especially the Lodhi community, in the upcoming by-polls on 13 assembly seats.
