Mumbai, Dec 29 (IBNS) : A major fire outbreak in Mumbai's Lower Parel area claimed at least 14 lives, while injuring 19 others, reports said.

The fateful incident took place on late Thursday night in the renowned Kamala Mills compound, destroying the office buildings and restaurants it housed.

Police have promised strict action against the compound owners.

According to news outlet NDTV, among the deceased were mostly women.

Reports have also claimed that the affected building did not have a fire exit.

Singer Shankar Mahadevan's son Siddharth, who himself is a playback singer, is one among the restaurant owners in Kamala Mills.

His restaurant, Mojo's Bistro, has come under the BMC scanner as there were 25 gas cylinders kept in the upper section of the facility, Firstpost reported.
