Karnataka hijab ban lift is tantamount to establishment of Sharia law: BJP leader Giriraj Singh

New Delhi/UNI: Taking an exception to the statement of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for lifting the hijab ban in educational institutions in Karnataka, Union Minister and BJP leader Giriraj Singh on Saturday said it is a tantamount to establishment of Sharia law.

If Rahul Gandhi, the Congress and the INDIA alliance form a government, then Sharia law will be implemented in the country.

"There is a Congress government in Karnataka. It wants to lift the hijab ban in educational institutions in the state. This is not merely the lifting of the ban on hijab, but the establishment of Sharia law in the state.

"If Rahul Gandhi, Congress and INDIA alliance form the government in the country, then Islamic law will be implemented," he told reporters here.

Wherever the Congress government is ruling, attempts have been made to establish Sharia there, Giriraj Singh said.

Meanwhile, Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa in Bengaluru said it shows the real intent of the Congress in Karnataka.

He said the Congress government in Karnataka is making such a statement because it has realised that it is not winning the next Lok Sabha election, especially after the election results of five states. The Congress and INDIA Alliance have lost all hope completely.

"Hence the Congress government in Karnataka has stooped to this level of allowing hijab in schools and colleges," Vijayendra said.

The BJP state President said nobody from the minority demanded the wearing of hijab in educational institutions. He further said the statement of the chief minister clearly shows utter carelessness. "You are CM for the entire state, not one religion or community.

Despite the courts having expressed concerns over this issue, Siddaramaiah's statement is really unfortunate, he said.
